We hire people to create value.
Then fail to build the conditions that let value show up.
A product hire can’t fix unidentified customer requirements. A salesperson can’t outrun broken incentives. Marketing can’t create demand if leadership treats it like promotion.
A GTM Engineer is no different.
I’ve worked with GTM Engineers for 18 months. I’m also a GTM Operator + Engineer.
The role is growing because the need is real. Companies want someone who can connect data, signals, workflows, AI, CRM logic, and revenue motion.
But the hire is only one cost.
The larger cost is teaching the organization how to use the role well.
That starts with understanding GTM.
GTM is not sales with better tools.
It’s how Product, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, RevOps, and Enablement work together for the customer and bring them closer to the product.
That’s the change most companies face.
The GTM Engineer becomes the visible hire. The real work is breaking down the silos that made the hire necessary.
Otherwise, the new role gets dropped into the old operating model.
Product learns one thing. Sales acts on another. Marketing measures something else.
Customer Success sees the patterns late, and RevOps gets asked to clean up the trail.
That is how a modern role becomes an expensive workaround.
Execution Beats Theory. Every Time.
