Sometimes reflection starts with what is peeling away.

The surface tells one story.

What is underneath tells another.

We all know that feeling.

We go through something.

Maybe in silence.

Maybe with a smile on our face because the day still needs us to show up.

But inside, it’s hard as hell.

And after that, the old reminder sounds different.

We never know what someone else is carrying.

It’s true.

But it only becomes real when it reaches the part of us that’s carried something too.

Today is a national holiday because Juneteenth invites that kind of reflection.

It’s bigger than any one of us.

It’s part of our shared history.

And it should remain part of our shared future.

Not something we look back on once a year.

Something we carry forward with more responsibility and humanity.

We can’t change what happened.

But we can be responsible for the future that unfolds.
